MINIFIGS.ME Boomstick (Ash) and Nintendo Consoles Review

As a huge minifigure fan and collector I have resigned myself to the fact that Lego will unfortunately never produce all of my favourite characters in minifigure form. This makes me sad but luckily this makes a lot of people sad which creates a market for custom minifigures. I try to keep an eye on as many of the custom minifigure sites as key can usually wondering what the quality would be like and is it worth the seeming larger cost of a custom compared to an official figure. Once such site is minifigs.me which produce a large range of custom minifigures and printed accessories. They also produce custom minifigures to your specification. So if you fancied a custom minifig of your Aunt or your Brother's next door neighbor then you can ask them and they will design it for you. I've been putting off ordering anything from them for a while but I saw the 'Boomstick' minifigure and couldn't resist. 'Boomstick' is based on the character Ashley 'Ash' Williams from the evil dead series of movies (and recently a great TV Series). The Evil Dead movies are among my all time favourites and I'm a huge fan of the character so I just had to have the minifigure. While I was ordering the minifigure I thought I may as well order some of their printed accessories to have a look at but I will talk more about those later. The figure and accessories arrived in cool custom printed matchbox style box which I thought was a nice little touch.

The figure is printed on 100% official Lego pieces and I have to say it is really nicely done. The print has a slightly more matte and embossed quality when compared to official Lego printing but it is sharp and nicely designed. I love that the design is not overly complex and fits in well with other minifigures. He has a great face print with lots of cuts and blood splatter. His torso is printed on front and back which includes his torn shirt and straps which really suit the character. His legs and hip piece are also printed with very fine details which I think improves the look of the figure greatly as it would have been very easy for them to be lazy and just give him standard brown legs with no print. They have even gone to the trouble of giving him two different coloured arms to represent the sleeve missing on his left side. One thing I'm not so sure on is the hair piece used as i think their are other hair pieces which suit the character better but obviously it would be easy to switch to another piece if preferred. The accessories included with 'Boomstick' are a chainsaw made up a black brick and a saw piece, a shotgun and a tan tile with the Necronomicon printed on it. The Necronomicon is printed really nicely but I think it would have looked better printed on a book piece especially on one of the books found in the recent Nexo Knights sets. Overall I love the minifigure and I am really happy with the quality I think it was worth the price and will definitely consider getting more figures from minfigs.me.

Not in keeping with the theme, the rest of the accessories I ordered are all based on Nintendo consoles. Although there where a few Evil Dead games none of them as far as I know appeared on a Nintendo console. Anyway I guess I will start with the earliest console represented which is the Nintendo Entertainment System or NES for short. The tiny NES is printed on a 2x2 white tile and comes with a 2x2 light grey plate for the bottom half of the console. The console is instantly recognisable and is sharply printed with small details such as the text on the console which reads 'Briktendo Entertainment System'. Also included is a a NES controller which is printed on a white 1x2 tile and again the iconic controller can be recognised straight away. I love the little NES and I'm sure my minifigs can't wait to play some retro games.

The next console is a handheld system you may remember as The Gameboy. This adorable little Gameboy is printed on a white 1x2 tile and is as I said adorable. The print is really nicely done and they have even included their logo on the screen. I think this is a great little accessory and I imagine any owner of the original Gameboy would love it.

The final mini console I bought is based on the much less retro Nintendo Wii. The console itself is made up of a standard white 1x2 brick with a printed 1x2 tile on the top with the console details on it. The Wii comes with two controllers as everyone loves a bit of local multiplayer on the Wii. Both the controllers and the console again have sharp printing which represent the console really well. Though I did notice that both of the controllers has a blue light on the player one square. how can both players be player one?

In conclusion the consoles are great and would look great in a living room MOC or a maybe a gamer's bedroom. Minifigs.me have done a great job with all of the items I ordered and I look forward to checking out some of the other items on their website.
