Lego 76058 Spider-Man: Ghost Rider Team-Up Review

As a Lego fan and massive nerd at the same time, one of my favorite themes is the Super Heroes theme. I'm a big fan of both DC and Marvel so I tend to go for both and I really enjoy that I can mix up the DC and Marvel characters in little scenes and they will all look like they fit together and be the same scale, unlike those darn action figures. I quite like the recent lower price point sets where you seem to get a few exclusive minifigures without breaking the bank. One such set is the from the recent wave of Marvel Super Heroes, Lego 76058 Spider-Man: Ghost Rider Team-Up. Here I go with a review of the set.

First of all the main build of the set Ghost Rider's Motorcycle. I have heard a lot of people expressing their dislike of the motorcycle but I for one quite like it. From the pictures I wasn't sure I would like the look of it but I think it is much more impressive in real life and the build was quite fun. I quite enjoy that you can adjust the flames how you like to give it a slightly different look and I like the use of the large tire at the back. You also get a few little flame pieces that you can build dot about on your street scenes. The only thing I don't like about it and thought could have been handled better are the connectors for the flames which are a bit in your face. The main complaint I've heard is about the scale and it is quite large but the great thing about Lego is you don't like the design of something you can have a play and redesign it. I've seen quite a few redesigns popping up on twitter so you could even look at some other people's creations for inspiration.

The other vehicle in this set is Hobgoblin's glider. The glider is a small and simple build but it looks the part and is actually a decent scale for a minifig. I like the choice of the purple colour and it includes two flick fire misses on the sides.

The final build of the set is a little street corner section. There is a fairly small sticker sheet with this set and all of the stickers go on this part of the build. This build reminds me of a similar street corner from Lego 6858 Catwoman Catcycle City Chase except with a different design for the traffic lights and less crates. I quite like this little street corner particularly the traffic light which has two streets signs attached to it. The signs are for Second Street and Bleeker Street which are both 1x4 green tiles with the sign as a sticker rather than printed. I do like that they have added some scuff marks on the streets sign stickers to make them look slightly weathered.

Next to the traffic lights are two news stands, one red and one blue and they have slightly different designs. The blue stand has a sticker on the side for Front Line newspaper and the red stand has a sticker for the daily bugle both wither different headlines. Each stand comes with two 2x1 white tiles inside featuring a sticker representing the rolled up newspaper contained within. I really like how detailed the little newspapers are but I would have preferred if they were printed.

Finally you get a little bin with a lid and some bones an carrot stalks to put inside. The whole street corner is again a fairly simple build but it has character and could easily become part of a larger street scene.

The first figure we I'll look at is probably the most boring from most peoples perspective which is Spider-Man. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Spider-Man is a boring character and for somebody who only recently started buying Lego this is a fairly cheap set to get him. However most Lego fans will already have multiple figures of this exact same spider-man. I have noticed however that none of the Spider-Man figures in this wave of sets have the dual molded legs like the one found in 76037 Rhino and Sandman Super Villain Team-Up.

The figure itself has nothing different about it but I did find his accessories quite interesting. I think every Spider-Man  set in this wave contains a new web piece which is actually two new pieces put together. There is a transparent stud with a bar attached to it for the minifigure to hold and the new web piece itself. The transparent stud is interesting and I can imagine it being used a lot in the figure for various minifigure accessories and MOCs. I have already seen the piece used again recently for the Snow Queen figure in the Series 16 minifigures.

I think the Lego Marvel fans have been waiting for a Ghost Rider minifigure for a long time and he has finally arrived in this set. I think this is the Johnny Blaze version of Ghost Rider but I guess it could also be the Danny Ketch version. For the most part I really like this figure, the head is great and I love the torso but I think the legs are quite bland and some arm printing would not be amiss. I like the silver chain print on the front and back of the jacket and the torn parts revealing flames underneath.Ghost Rider's head is very interesting as the flame piece is not separate and is permanently fixed to his head. I like that they've tried to make it his head look like a typical Lego skull butt added some extra details to make his face unique. He also has a transparent orange chain as an accessory which I really like.

Now for the final minifigure in the set. I have heard a few people mistake this character for The Green Goblin. I can kind of understand why as he is a goblin who rides around on a glider and throws pumpkin bombs but he is certainly not green. He is actually named Hobgoblin and I think he makes a great minifigure. I'm a big fan of orange so I love the colours of this minifigure. He has an orange hood, cape, torso hands hips and feet. His two different face prints, one with an evil looking smile and the other with an angry snarl. He has printing on both the front and back of his torso with nice gold printing for the buckles on his belt and bag straps. He is the only figure in this set to come with dual molded legs and he has a ragged cape. A pumpkin bomb with flame is included as an accessory.

In conclusion I think this is a great set at a great price. You get two exclusive minifigures, both of which are fantastic. The bike build may not be for everybody but that just brings more fun if you want to customize it. the glider is a fine little build and suits the character it is designed for and the street corner is a fine little accent to the set. Spider-man is a good minifigure and it's a great way to get him if you don't have him already. I believe a lot of fans would agree with me when I say his design could do with a bit of an update or some variance. He has had so many costume changes in the comics over the years it would be nice to see his Lego form get a little update.
